It’s Been a Week

I’m still alive.

Some things have happened since the last time we talked.

On Tuesday night my residence had a little fiesta for the new girls. It was put on by the girls who have been here for a couple years. Don’t worry. The nuns were there the whole time. It was fun.

The nuns like me. They take care of me. Sometimes they almost do too much for me.

And today…

Today was a really good day.

I started it by sleeping in. Yes.

Then I got up and got ready for the day. Hung out in my room for a little bit. Sent and received some emails.

Then I had lunch. I enjoy meals. I get to practice my Spanish during meals (this is a very good thing), and I get to eat during meals. The girls here are really good at helping me with my Spanish. They’re patient, and nice, and they laugh at me when the time is right. And I laugh with them. Also, the people here walk EVERYWHERE, so come meal time I’m always hungry.

After lunch I took out my trash, and then I started on some laundry.

YES. I did a load of laundry. I washed some things in the sinks they have in the lavarìa and I put my towels and jeans and a few other dark things into the washer. I’m so proud of myself. I didn’t ruin anything either!!!!

After the washer (lavadora) was finished, I stuck my clothes in the dryer and went shopping with Claudia.

Claudia is the 15 year old daughter of the Miller’s, the missionary family from Pennsylvania that has been here for two months working alongside the Sells.

She is GREAT! We did more talking than shopping, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with her in the future. Plus, she speaks English.

We shopped for a couple hours, and then I came home and folded my towels and then had dinner. I enjoyed dinner as well. I’m starting to understand more Spanish, and SPEAK better Spanish too!!!!!

As a matter of fact, I was pretty impressed with my Spanish speaking ability today.

After dinner I worked on my homework for a little bit and then had to go to a meeting here in the residence hall for us neuvas chicas. I have a feeling I’m going to do pretty well  on all my homework because I have so many people who can help me with it.

So, overall it was just a really good day.

I’m becoming pretty popular here at the residence (yes…because I’m an Americana), and I feel more comfortable here. I’m hanging out with the girls, and continuing to do what I do best.

Just be Amanda.

And for some reason…they like me.

That’s all for now. I have a long day tomorrow.

Hasta luego
